Jah Mason and Nico D, Lutan Fyah, Mr. Perfect and Supermanna

On Friday, November 2nd, reggae is finally coming to the Oslo World Music Festival! The evening’s headliners are Jah Mason, Norway’s own reaggae star Nico D, Lutan Fyah and Mr. Perfect. All backed by the reggae band House of Riddim.

Jah Mason released his first single in 1991 and quickly became popular in Jamaica. Towards the end of the 90s he worked with Jah Cure, and with hit songs like “Run Come Love Me” Jah Mason got international attention. Jah Mason has released at least an album a year since 2000, but is perhaps best known for his energetic stage performances. In 2007 he again got international success with the single “My Princess Gone” and has since been one of the most popular “sing-jays” in the reggae genre. The energetic 42-year-old also had a superhit on the Jamaican charts in 2009 with Oslo-based Nico D “Ruff Times”.

Nico D began his reggae career more than ten years ago in Jah Ark Manifest with Admiral P and DJ Daniel Lion. He then went solo and became the first Scandinavian to top the charts in Jamaica with the single Ruff Times (along with Jah Mason) in 2009. This year he released his debut album “Coming in from the cold.” He was also recently one of the star participants in NRK Stjernekamp. This November he has a new Norwegian single out called “Jungelen”.

Lutan Fyah made his name as a vocalist in 1999, after the famous reggae artist Buju Banton took him under his wing. Luton Fayah has kept to consciously Rasta songs, with salient texts and social commentary, but he is also famous for singing romantic reggae. He has enjoyed huge success with songs such as “Rasta Still Deh Bout” and “No Badmind” with the Norwegian reggae artists Nico D and Admiral P.

Mr. Perfect a.k.a. Giddimani is one of the most exciting and refreshing voices on the current reggae and dancehall scene. Mr. Perfect has been on stage since the age of nine, and he is known as an innovative and colourful artist, in the studio as well as on stage. In 2006 he had two big hits, “Hand Cart Bwoy” and “No Badda Mi”, from the album “Giddimani”, which turned him into a highly sought-after artist in the Caribbean and world-wide. In 2008 he earned rave reviews for the album “Born Dead With Life”, an album that established Mr. Perfect as a remarkably creative artist who adds humour and intelligence to the reggae genre.

In addition, we will be visited by the Bodø guys from SuperManna, who will play one of their highly exclusive gigs south of the Arctic Circle. The band, which previously went by the name of Manna, keeps it down with heavy dub, roots-rock reggae and North Norwegian lyrics. Now they are back with a new name, and they promise to perform like superheroes on stage!
