Matt Corby

The voice from Australia

Matt Corby is the first artist we have ever booked from Australia, and we have high expectations for him. Corby began his singing career as a 16-year old when he won second place on Australian Idol in 2007. But he has proven that he is much more than just a reality show star.

Early on, Corby was compared with Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, and his songs have been used in popular TV series such as Underbelly: Razor, Home and Away and Brothers and Sisters.

Yet like all Idol stars, he has found it hard to shake off the label, and it was not until the release of his EP “Into the Flame” in 2011 that he truly found his own form and what would become his new signature style: soul-inspired growling vocals combined with a low-key folk and blues melody. His unique style has attracted widespread attention in social media and various web forums. But more established forums have recognized this talented artist as well, and in January of this year he was named the “Next Big Thing” and won “Song of the Year” for his single “Brother” at the FBi Radio’s annual SMAC Awards in Sydney. Since then, he has performed for sold-out venues in both Australia and England. On November 1st you can hear his unique blend of soul, folk and blues at Blå.
