Ol’ Man River

- Theatre at Nordic Black Theatre / Cafeteatret

Paul Robeson is more or less forgotten today, but in his time, he was one of the world’s greatest artists. The African-American artist and civil rights activist managed to lift his music from smaller local stages in the United States to the most recognized venues worldwide. He used his position to fight against the violent racism in the United States.

Robeson was an educated lawyer before becoming a footballer and an artist. He managed this despite heavy segregation in the United States. Robeson was an inspiration for the next generation of freedom fighters like Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela.

This show is about Paul Robeson’s life and his music in a difficult time in America. The lead role is played by the musician Jason Nemor Harden, he is accompanied by Henry Bwire on piano and Tove Erikstad on cello.
