How much of a barrier is the language barrier in 2025? What are the driving forces behind the globalization of the pop scene, what has caused the Latin boom in recent years – and how do new artists and representatives maneuver in this multilingual landscape?
In this conversation, Dusko Justic and Susi Castelo will draw from their experiences working with Spanish-speaking artists in a global context to explore the possibilities and pitfalls of a multilingual pop business.
Dusko Justic is visiting Oslo in connection with this year's biggest booking, Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso, who he has worked with. He started his career as a DJ and promoter on the New York City club scene, and eventually, he started the Latin Electronic label Orianna Music. Today, he is Senior Vice President for International Strategic Market Development Latin-Iberia, in Sony Music Entertainment. Here, he has worked on developing Latin-Iberian artists' profiles across non-Spanish speaking territories in Europe, Canada and the Asia-Pacific. Over the last two decades, he has worked with artists such as Rosalía, Shakira, Enrique Igesias, Jennifer Lopez and Nicky Jam, expanding their reach across the globe.
Susi Castelo has experience as a booker at the multicultural venue ALICE Cph and Roskilde Festival, and a personal mission of creating bridges between Nordic, Spanish-speaking, and other cultures and contributing to nuancing diversity and cultural representation - with a particular focus on achieving a broader, more updated representation of Latin music in Northern Europe.
From the challenges of artist development across different markets to the importance of authentic branding that transcends language, they’ll discuss what it takes to build international talent today. The session will also look at how cultural nuance, strategic collaborations, and digital platforms are reshaping the way artists connect with global audiences — and what aspiring talent needs to succeed in an increasingly borderless industry.
The talk is followed up by snacks, drinks and mingling.
