On Saturday, November 1, choreographer Dorothée Munyaneza and performers Jean Patient Nkubana, Impakanizi, Abdoul Mujyambere, and Michael Makembe will speak about the performance Umuko. Munyaneza will share her artistic interests, and the group will talk about the process and the ideas behind the performance.
Referring to umuko—the healing tree, the tree of the ancestors, and the guardian of history—Dorothée Munyaneza, in the performance Umuko, invite five young artists, poets, dancers, and musicians from the Rwandan scene. Together, they weave the heritage of the past with the creativity and boldness of the future—essential in facing the uncertainties of everyday life. In Umuko, past and future meet in Kinyarwanda, and stories are told through body, poetry, music, and song.
